As I was watching King Abdullah of Jordan dress up like Rambo to airdrop some food into Gaza, I could not but think how callous and opportunistic this was. Pure optics for PR to show his credentials to whoever he feels he needs to impress. Together with the US, they dropped a mere 38,000 meal packets. Something that’ll last 1.6% of the population for one meal. That too assuming all of the drops into the sea actually made it to people. Not to worry, when hungry Gazans come to collect it, the Israeli occupation militia will shoot up a few more of them, so the meals will feed more percentage of the population.
I also could not but notice one or two of the western corporate media outlets, that usually act as glorified Israeli stenographers, suddenly putting on a coat of neutrality. Fareed Zakaria has apparently grown a spine to criticize Biden’s lapdog attitude to Netanyahu. All this after six months of genocide!
Moral cowardice of the west has been laid bare by this savagery. The fact that rules-based order is just a pretense to beat up nations that do not tow the western line is quite clear. The sad part is fellow Arabs and Muslims lacked a backbone to make a meaningful contribution to Palestinians’ plight is just as pathetic.
I am however heartened to see the efforts of many independent journalists, student organizations, Jewish peace movements, and general populations at large raising their voice against this medieval barbarism. This tells me the days of settler colonial project as it exists today is numbered.
700,000 settlers in the occupied West Bank pretty much consigns the notion of a two-state solution into the bin. For lasting peace there needs to be a single state with rights for all. Reconciliation is not impossible, when you look at the likes of Northern Ireland, Rwanda, etc. One in every 20 Palestinians have been killed or maimed. Will they, or Israelis who have lost people, really be able to make peace? Only if the perpetrators of today’s evil from all sides are brought to justice.
